Outcomes From Latest CIK Championship Planning Meeting

AKA press release

Victoria back on race schedule; tyre and engine orders placed

The organisers of the 2008 Australian CIK Championship Series are pleased to advise a number of positive outcomes were achieved during a meeting of key stakeholders and industry members held in Sydney last weekend.

As a result of these positive outcomes the Australian Karting Association has confirmed it has placed an order with the respective companies to supply the Vega Tyres and Parilla Reedster engines which will be used in the series.

One of the other major outcomes from the meeting is the series will now be conducted across a revised four round schedule beginning at Ipswich on the first weekend in May. The series will then head to Newcastle on June 14 and 15 followed by a newly included round in Victoria at VACC Park in Melbourne on September 14/15. As indicated in the original schedule, the series will culminate in Toowoomba on the third weekend of October.

2008 AUSTRALIAN CIK CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE
May 3/4 - Ipswich, Qld
June 14/15 - Newcastle, NSW
September 13/14 - Melbourne, VIC
October 18/19 - Toowoomba, QLD

Currently there are 11 manufacturers/importers who have committed to the series which leaves the door open for a maximum of a further five teams to be a part of the revamped CIK Series.

The chassis to be used by the committed teams, which will consist of two drivers per round, are:

- Azzurro
- Birel
- CRG
- Intrepid
- Kosmic
- Maranello
- PCR
- RedSpeed
- VanSpeed
- Zanardi
- Zedtec

Many of these teams are still looking to finalise their driver line up and the committee urges interested drivers to contact the respective manufacturers/importers.

With a maximum grid of 32 for the series it now provides the opportunity for a number of ‘privateer’ teams to enter the championship with a two-driver operation using one of the following chassis.

- Alonso
- Arrow
- BRM
- Gillard
- Kosmic
- Monaco
- Omega
- Phoenix
- Tony Kart
- Top Kart
- or any other CIK homologated or AKA registered chassis not already represented in the first list.

Interested parties who are looking to field a team in the championship are urged to contact the AKA’s National Office on 02 9280 1300 to obtain a complete information package.

“Overall the weekend’s meeting was a resounding success between many of the key stakeholders of the series with many positive outcomes being established,” said AKA President Richard Erdmann.

“The CIK Championship is designed to become the flagship to promote top level of karting in this country and I’m confident it will be well supported when it makes its return to Australian tracks on the first weekend in May.”
