Kovacic Tests USA F.BMW

Leading Australian Junior karter James Kovacic tested a Formula BMW in America recently. At just 14 years of age, Kovacic is now not only the youngest Australian to have ever tested a Formula BMW race car, but also believed to be the youngest Australian to test an open wheeler in the USA.

James is pictured above being fitted out for the car that he will be racing in 2009 (because of his young age, he cant start racing in the class until next year). The test was conducted at "No Problem raceway", New Orleans USA. James and his sponsors together with his father have acquired both cars pictured.

With the assistance of Oversteer Race Team manager Mitch Biner, one of the cars is planned to be flown into Australia after the test and the other will stay in the USA.

The team runs not only F.BMW cars but also Compact Speedcars, Sprintcars and Go Karts. Valentino Kovacic (James' father) will base the car out of his extensive racing workshop on the NSW Central Coast.

The Oversteer Race Team was also testing other drivers and James matched the times of two South Americans who both have extensive experience in various open wheeler cars, including 2.0 litre Formula Renault cars and F.BMW.

At the completion of the test, will visit former Indycar front runner Richie Hearn and his faciliies in Las Vegas that includes a Toyota Atlantic Open Wheeler.

FBmw Americas has now expanded its series dramatically and the series will now be a part of The Canadian F1 Grand Prix and the Brazilian F1 Grand Prix. The series consists of 7 rounds and includes races at Indianapolis, Montreal, Sao Paolo, Road America, Lime Rock Raceway and the famous and daunting facility of Laguna Seca.

James now has his own website to keep everyone up to date: www.jameskovacic.com
