Saturday Night Series Stars At Wollongong

press release

Marking its much anticipated debut for the year, the Powered by Honda ProKart Australia Saturday Night Go Kart Series failed to disappoint after an entertaining opening round last Saturday night (February 23) at Wollongong City Raceway.

With the classes Rookie/Midget, Juniors, TAG Lite, TAG Heavy, Senior J, Clubman and Shifter Karts in competition, all types of Go Karting classes were catered for in the events first round of the year.

The race format of the Saturday Night Series was made up of practice and qualifying sessions, followed by three heat races, and then both a pre final and final.

Chad Horsely and Jessie Rose dominated the Juniors classes and were considered hot favourites to take out the final, but a crash in the opening lap of the final between the two saw them fail to finish. This left Ben Stellino to take out the final ahead of Jonathan Gaudi and Zoey Donnelly.

Top three spots for the Midget / Rookie class in the final were Joshua Buggy, ahead of Stefan Stanovich and Corrie Donnelly.

It was new comer Dean Starling that claimed an upset victory in the Shifter Karts final when he downed David Lazzaro with a final lap pass after the latter had dominated the entire meeting up until that point. Third place in the Shifter Karts final was claimed by Tim Soji.

The TAG Lite class saw Daniel Ball take first on his debut, ahead of Evan Gatt in second and in third was Nick Pierre, while in the TAG Heavy class the three top places were filled by winner Shane Taite, who finished ahead of Mark Radisich and Elias Katsaras.

Steve Neill, Craig Dobson and Brock Crowther took the top 3 places for the Senior J class, while the Clubman class was taken out by Dave Solomon, who finished ahead of Manuel Catis and Jim Birdfind in the final.

The second round of the Saturday Night Series is to be held at the Wollongong City Raceway on Saturday night, March 29.
