KIAA Supports CIK Front Brake Decision

AKA press release

Several leading identities in the Australian Karting Industry have applauded the recent decision by the International Karting Council (IKC) not to allow front brakes as a part of the 2008 Australian CIK Championship.

Karting Industry Association of Australia (KIAA) President Ian Black believes the decision by the IKC will provide the opportunity for current competitors to easily graduate into the rejuvenated elite series.

“If there has been one issue that has been on the agenda for a number of months now regarding the CIK Series it has certainly been front brakes and I can honestly say I’m very pleased to see a decision made not to incorporate them,” said Black.

“This decision now allows our top competitors to use their current chassis by simply bolting on the CIK specification engine and tyres rather than having to buy a new chassis with front brakes and associated components.”

Remo Luciani, the proprietor of Remo Racing and the importer of the Kosmic chassis, has always been a strong believer in the fact that front brakes shouldn’t be allowed, especially during 2008.

“One of the main mottos when bringing back the CIK Series as the elite championship in Australian karting was to ensure the costs were kept to a reasonable level, by not allowing front brakes this goes a long way to ensuring this is the case,” said Luciani.

“I believe this decision is 100% the correct one to make and will be very beneficial to the success of the series because it is now easier for drivers to be a part of the series in 2008.”

The IKC have also confirmed the tyres to be used in the 2008 Australian CIK Championship will be the Dunlop DDS compound, the same specification of tyre used in the European CIK Championship.
