Cobden's Big Country Series Round

Perfect conditions greeted round 2 of the Victorian Country Series at Cobden on April 20 as over 230 entires put on some spectacular racing.

A field of 24 Midgets provided all the action this time as Sean Stevens got caught up mid pack and rolled on turn 1. The Tracklife medical team performed beautifully in helping Sean off the track and giving him a free ride in their van to make sure all was ok. On the restart the group made it to turn 2 before Scott Denboer rolled into the fence, with the Tracklife team straight back into action. After a single file restart the rest of the day went very smoothly, and a little longer than usual.

Jye O’keefe had a great day in Clubman light. It's Jye’s first year in seniors and it seems there is no holding him back. Meanwhile Nathan Van Hulst made it a clean sweep in Clubman Super Heavy field.

The Leopards are always good to watch but it was Matt Hall in the heavies who made it his weekend, wile in the lights George Geranis, Stefan Millard and Ben Kilsby traded places all day with Geroge taking the final.

A field of 27 watched Aaron Johnstone and Garry Jacobson at the pointy end for most of the day, and while Garry grabbed the final a DNF in heat 1 saw Aaron get the overall points in Junior National Heavy.

Round 2 was also a Rotax Sanctioned event, which brought a few more to the track but it was Corey McCullagh who owned the day, with Broe Shiells never far behind in 2nd.

The top 3 in Senior National light did not change with all 3 races reading 1st Dale Beaton, 2nd Ashley Sinclair and 3rd Andrew Smith.

Plenty of drivers in Junior National Light who were all chasing Jordan Nicolaou who was the pace setter all day with a clean sweep of all races.

A case of the Young Gun taking it up to the champ in Clubman Heavy as Scott King and Remo Luciani traded places in the heats and then turned it on in the final as they swapped spots a number of times before Scott grabbed the lead and held off Remo by 0.066 of a second to win the final.

Kyle Rethus turned it on at his home track and won all 3 Rookie races including the final where he crossed the line over 5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Junior Clubman Driver Jay Baxter led the way home to take the final in front of some strong challenges from Andrew Rae and Garry Jacobson.

Clubman over 40’s driver Ross Gathercole could do nothing wrong all day and made it a clean sweep as he crossed the line in the setting sun in front of Greg Matchoss.

The Midgets had the last run with Jake Klein wining the final to make it 2 from 3 for the day.

Once again, congratulations to the South West Kart Club for a very successful meeting. Also the tracklife team need to be commended for their professionalism and caring attitude thoughout the day.

A small break in the series before Round 3 in Warnambool on the 22nd of June.
