Commenting on the move Williams - a karting and two-stroke engine builder icon - who has been supporting Newman’s career since his early days in Midgets said:

“Whilst Rhys has been a leading member of my junior development squad for many years, it was his sensational 2007 season that led me to the belief that now is the right time to assist Rhys’s career further by having him drive an Arrow chassis. Rhys has international ambitions in Motorsport and having a direct association with Australia’s largest manufacturer and exporter of racing karts through my agency can only be a good thing.”

14 year old Newman, now in his 7th year of competition, repaid the faith that Williams has put in him by winning rounds 3 and 4 of the S.A. Festival State Cup in the Rotax Junior Max class held over the last two weeks at Bolivar raceway driving his new mount, an Arrow AX9 28/30 chassis.

These victories put Newman in an unassailable lead for the 2008 SA Festival State series and add valuable points to the national Rotax rankings that decide who will represent Australia in the 2008 Rotax World final to be held at the La Conca International Circuit in Muro Leccesse in Italy later this year.

“I am very proud to have been chosen for this seat,” said Newman.  “I would like to thank not only all the people who helped me reach a point in my career where I was in a position to be selected for this drive, but also those who are continuing to support me and are working very hard behind the scenes towards a move overseas,” he added.
