leigh nicolaouThe winner of two national karting titles in 2004 and 2006, the Taylors Lakes racer contested the 2007 Victorian State Formula Ford Series.

As well as driving the Minda Motorsport prepared Formula Ford, his priority is to complete Year 12 studies this year.

The Britek Motorsport Scholarship offers career-path drivers the chance to enter into a professional motor sport development program. The program caters for Karters and aspiring open-wheel drivers that want to move into V8 Supercars or pursue a career overseas.

Owned by former Bathurst winner and driver of the #25 Fujitsu Racing Falcon Jason Bright, Britek Motorsport also campaigns the #26 IRWIN Racing Ford of Marcus Marshall.

Nicolaou joins karters Scott McLaughlin (Qld), Justin and Nathan Garioch (Qld), as well as Formula Ford racers Adam Graham (NSW), Martin Swindells (Qld) and Ben Walter (TAS).

The Britek Motorsport Scholarship covers many key areas including; sponsorship, public relations, personal development, fitness, technical comprehension, data analysis and engineering.

“This is an excellent opportunity to develop myself into a professional motor racing driver,” said Nicolaou.

“Doing well in the Victorian State Series is very important this year, as I’m looking ahead to the national championship next year.

“I’m focusing on improving my driving and learning from the likes of Jason Bright, plus the crew at Minda Motorsport.

“However, my number one priority this year is my Year 12 studies. Importantly everyone involved in the Britek Motorsport Scholarship fully understands this and have been very supportive.”

Minda Motorsport Managing Director Bruin Beasley has plenty of praise for Nicolaou.

“An outstanding talent who we believe will really thrive in the Britek Motorsport Scholarship program,” said Beasley.

“He’s been racing for 13 years, but is still relatively new to Formula Ford. Importantly he’s very keen to learn and make the most of the opportunity.

“He’s got a very cool head on young shoulders. Even the way he’s prioritised his racing this year to ensure that he doesn’t hurt his Year 12 studies shows a lot of maturity.

Nicolaou will compete at the remaining rounds of the Victorian State Series and will continue to work hard with his existing sponsors, world electronics giant LG, International electronics supplier NCE and Muscrete Constructions to ensure their support for next year’s National Formula Ford Championship.
