Gosford Speedway - Rnd 5

from Victor Maastricht

Round 5 of the Club Championship was held on a cool and clear day on June 29, with lots of great racing in all classes. The track got a bit bumpy at times and required continual up-keep all day, but 2 and 3 wide racing was common in many races.

In the Clubman Over 40 class, Mick Rumbel proved most consistent to finish first, followed closely by Dave Taylor and Grant Lahiff. One of our new members, Scott Schroder, was having a great run leading the feature race until an eventual DNF.

The Midgets were closely contested between Kyle Angel and Luke Sayre, with Kyle just finishing ahead. Levi Moir ended up third after taking third place in every race. It was great to see another new young driver Taylor Rietdyk as well.

In Clubman Lights Nathan Bailey took home first place after finishing with two 1st and two 2nd places.  Joel Rhind ended up second, just ahead of Natalie Genner who also won one race. Young Matt Smidt had a great day racing his dad’s kart, and sprintcar racer Taylor Johnson also made a return appearance but finished out of the points.

Nikki Briton made a clean sweep of the rookies finishing with three 1st’s and a third for the day. Reagan Angel finished 2nd with some consistent second places, and Jake Baines rounded out third after winning the feature race.

A large Clubman Heavy Field, with 4 P Plate drivers, saw a mixed bag of winners, with Ross Turnbull taking out the spoils, with 3 drivers behind him fighting for minor placings. Joel Rhind just managed to grab 2nd place, after winning the feature race, with Gary Slarke just edging out Matthew Bond for third.

In the Juniors, Brad Giffen finished the victor, with two race wins and a 2nd placing. Kyle Pollock ended up 2nd, after winning the feature race and a DNF in one heat. Cassie Ralph and Ashleigh Briton fought over 3rd all day, with Cassie just pipping Ashleigh in the last race.

Our KT Modified class continues to enjoy good numbers this year, with John Watton taking out the winners trophy. Kris Maastricht ended the day with another 2nd, after some consistent placings all day. Matt Bond managed to grab third even after a DNF in the first heat.

A big thanks to our track crew and fence erectors, due to the Saturday Greyhound meeting severely impacting our preparation schedule, and also to all our other Volunteers on the day.

Don’t forget our Come and Try and Practice days coming up on the 19th/20th July. Bookings for the Come & Try are essential.
