Preview - Eastern Creek Superkarts

press release

The Australian Superkart Championships this weekend will feature a fierce battle for the 125cc title. In recent years the 125cc has been a hard fought battle between racers from all over the country evenly mixed between veterans and young emerging drivers.

Leading the entry is 2006 champion Queensland based Russell Jamieson in the Coach Design Stockman-Honda. Russell and his champion father Chryss, have been developing a laydown version of the Stockman design, based around the Gladiators the Jamieson family have raced for several seasons. Russell will be joined in the class by his uncle Drene in a Coach Design prepared Stockman.

Reigning champion Kristian Stebbing will be racing in the 250 International division, but the Victorian based family will still be represented though Brad Stebbing in the Suburban Accounting Stockman-Honda.

Anthony Lappas won the final race of the 2007 season, the Romeo's Foodland/IGA Supermarkets Stockman-Honda lines up to gain as much advantage as he can before the South Australian races his home round at Mallala later in the season.

Tim Philp finished third in the title chase in 2006, both he and his father Craig have Stockman-Hondas to compete this season for the Brisbane based C System Dyno / George Floth Engineering team.

Jarrod Lethborg made an impressive debut halfway through the 2007 series. The Victorian Bakker-Honda will travel north for the series opening round. Twelve racing karts will compete in the class.

In the 250 National (single cyclinder) class the majority of battle is amongst the Victorians. Jason McIntyre is not defending his crown this year, placing Rick Setterfield (RMR Superkarts Anderson-KTM) as favourite. Fellow Victorian Martin Latta (MJR Bricklaying Stockman) is expected to be the contender, with the only New South Wales competitor in the class, Frank Giglio (GR Industries Stockman) looking to improve after an unlucky run in 2007.
