Yamaha Engine To Be Won At NZ Street Race

Yamaha NZ will once again put a KT100 kart motor up for grabs at the CASTROL Tauranga Street Race being held in November.

Yamaha’s KT100 motor is a purpose built 100cc kart motor used all over the world in kart racing. In New Zealand it is used in the Junior Restricted (ages 10 to 14 yrs), Junior Yamaha (ages 12 to 16 yrs) and Senior Yamaha Lights and Heavy’s classes (ages 15 yrs plus).

Every driver entered in these four classes at Bay of Plenty Kart Club’s Castrol Tauranga Street Race will be put into the draw to win the motor, with the only catch being that the driver drawn out of the lucky draw MUST be present at the Prizegiving to accept the prize.

BOP Kart Club member and Street Race sponsorship manager Dave Catley has received very good support in putting together this years event and local businesses have been more than willing to once again get behind this successful event.

"We have been very impressed with the positive feedback received from not only the affected businesses around the track but with all the supporting Bay of Plenty and multi-national businesses in general" Mr. Catley adds” Karting is a great family sport. Not only the obvious “Dads & Sons relationship”, but families as a whole either race or get involved. That may be Nationally recognised events or just competing at club events and fun days, as it’s not all about winning…….but having fun. As we know many great racing drivers from New Zealand and around the world have come from a Karting background, so sure get serious and go for it ! It really is fantastic for the city that we are able hold such a unique and exciting event."

As well as Yamaha New Zealand’s generous support, other product prizes up for grabs include Castrol caps & shirts and oil products, Bridgestone raceware, Karcher waterblasters, Burger King vouchers, CRC products, BP petrol vouchers, Rainbows End tickets, Speedsport magazine subscriptions, and more.

There are a number of significant changes and features to the track from the last event including the incorporation of specially designed rubberized chicanes and kerb fillers. These unique designs allow vision through the chicane, kerb protection and run off areas.

Other alterations made to the track include slowing down the track at some points, widening of the track corners to allow for more passing opportunity’s and the removal of one chicane through the Glasgow St section to speed up the lower track sector.

At a recent club day, local drivers were given the opportunity to test out the new rubber matting chicane’s that will be used this year. After testing several different prototypes, drivers found that the best performing chicane was just three layers or approximately 75mm high. This will be the design put into use on the 1100 meter street circuit.

Sunday November 9th will see the streets of Tauranga come alive with the excitement that is kart racing.
