Pigot & Allemann Dominate Robo Pong 200

press release

SunTrust Youth Racing Program driver Spencer Pigot and current Firestone Indy Lights pilot Cyndie Allemann led almost 100 laps of the Mazda Robo Pong 200 last weekend setting fastest lap of the race in the process.

The H Power/Screeming Talent Gillard Parilla started sixth on a grid of 84 drivers and ahead of the 2005 Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon and IndyCar regulars Thomas Scheckter, Vitor Meira, AJ Foyt IV and Ed Carpenter.

After three successful pit stops and with only 19 laps to go, cruel luck struck as Pigot drove in the final stint. On lap 181 while enjoying a 32 second lead he suddenly cruised to a halt with no drive to the wheels due to a rear sprocket failure.

“We had the race in the bag. It was our last stint and I had plenty of fuel to complete the race. Obviously it’s a great disappointment for me, Cyndie and the H Power Team,” explained a dejected Pigot after the race. “I would like to thank my tuner Mike Maurini for a great job on strategy and during the pit stops. Also thanks to Paul Howard for the engines, Jay Howard for the driving tips and last but not least my team mate Cyndie Allemann. She was very fast and consistent and saved fuel when we needed to. I could not have wished for a better driving partner. Despite our result it was a great event and with Mary Hullman George giving the command to start engines it made it even more of a special occasion. Hopefully I’ll hear those words again one day but sitting on the grid at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway!”
