Pegoraro Wins Wet Race 2

from Mark Jones

Victorian RMR Superkarts / Marron Excavations Anderson-FPE racer Gary Pegoraro made the best of wet conditions in the first Sunday race of the final of the Dave Potter Honda Australian Superkart Championship.

Making a perfect start from the second row of the grid, Pegoraro quickly launched by the slow starting Darren Hossack, and by the end of the first lap had reeled in polesitter Warren McIlveen and was untouchable for the six lap duration. After damaging his gearbox yesterday, it was exactly what 'Wizzer', and the RMR Superkart team needed. Pegoraro damaged a gearbox yesterday and was forced to race it in a patched up condition. Team mate Matt Wall missed yesterdays race with fouled plugs on the dummy grid and drove through the pack today to claim sixth.

The win keeps Pegoraro's championship hopes alive, and also Sam Zavaglia's too, the Sydney based Stockman-Yamaha racer climbed into second position with a much improved kart after losing most of a day chasing electrical issues on Friday.

Warren McIlveen (Mac'S Marine Stockman-Honda) finished third today with brakes working much less than optimum. The reigning champ had put new brake pads in overnight, but the wet conditions meant the warm-up lap was useless for bedding in the pads.

Series leader Darren Hossack (Safe Evolutions Anderson-Safe) lost fourth position to hard charging local racer Ilya Harpas (Internode / Metaplanners / Davtec Zip Eagle-BRC) on the last lap, blunting his series lead to 15 points although with two races left Zavaglia and Pegoraro still need a bad race to catch Hossack.

Behind Matt Wall who fought his way through a fierce dice to finish sixth, Carlo Chermaz (Buildersmile Construction PVP) improved to seventh position but is now out of the championship fight. Dan Ramerman (KC Tools Anderson-Yamaha) recovered from a poor start to finish eighth.

Mark Hanson (Phoenix Dental Laboratory Zip Eagle-Yamaha) and Yiani Harpas (Internode / Metaplanners / Davtec Zip Eagle-BRC) completed the top ten.

Anthony Lappas (Romeo's Foodland / IGA Supermarkets Stockman-Honda) again won the 125cc gearbox division from Brad Stebbing (Suburban Accounting Stockman-Honda). Second inches Stebbing closer to his national title, Lappas closed the gap to 17 points.

Martin Latta (MJR Bricklaying Stockman-Yamaha) won the 250 National calss from Rick Setterfield (RMR Superkarts / Wizzer Race Engines Anderson-KTM).
