Information From AKA Regarding Dunlop Kart Tyres

AKA press release

Given the recent changes in the value of the Australian dollar against other currencies across the world, in particular the Japanese Yen, the recommended retail price for of a set of Dunlop kart tyres will be altered as of December 1, 2008.

Over the past few years, the Japanese Yen has been one of the most stable currencies against the Australian dollar, however, the current conversion rate is approximately 40% lower than it was several months ago.

Due to this factor, Dunlop Kartsport and the Australian Karting Association, have been left with no option other than to alter the recommended retail price for the Dunlop SL1 and the Dunlop KT6SLW1 tyres.

“The large alteration in the exchange rate over the past few months has seen many products that are imported change in price recently and unfortunately as all Dunlop tyres are made in Japan, we are not immune to this change,” said Dunlop Kartsport’s Les May.

“Over the years the Japanese Yen has been very stable in relation to our dollar but a when our landing costs increased by 40% it necessitated a change to the recommended retail price.

“As a part of Dunlop's ongoing commitment to the karting community we have worked closely with the AKA to minimise the effect this will have on the karters. As a result, the price alteration is approximately 20% lower than what it could have been if it wasn't for the positive outlook and forward thinking of the current National Karting Council and the AKA Executive.

“Should we see another major change, hopefully in the opposite direction to the one we have experienced recently, in the exchange rate, I assure karters that the costs will be reduced accordingly in a timely manner.”

Effective as of Monday December 1, 2008 the recommended retail price for a set of Dunlop SL1 dry weather tyres (as used in the Midgets, Rookies and National categories) will be $238.00 and the recommended retail price for a set of Dunlop KT6SLW1 wet weather tyres will be $289.00.

The above prices represent an increase of approximately 16% on the current SL1 price and 20% on the KT6SLW1 price, well below the 40% currently being passed on by retailers to consumers purchasing other imported products from Japan.
