CIK Trophy Of New Zealand

press release

For the first time ever the CIK Trophy of New Zealand will be contested at the Hawkes Bay Karting Club’s ZM Raceway, Hastings, Hawke’s Bay on 6-8 February 2009.

This premier event on the KartSport New Zealand calendar has attracted drivers from overseas in recent years and is the only event in New Zealand with international style parc ferme operation. Once again all visiting international drivers will receive free entry to the event.

The CIK classes include KZ2 125cc gearbox karts plus the first inclusion of the new CIK KF engines in KF2 and KF3. This year the KF2 and KF3 engines will run side by side with Formula 100 and Junior Intercontinental A engines respectively. It will be interesting to see how the KF engines stack up against the lighter 100cc powered karts over the 35 lap finals.

The first five KartSport New Zealand licenced drivers in KF2/Formula 100 and KF3/JICA will earn eligibility to enter the respective 2009 CIK-FIA World Cups for KF2 (Alcaniz, Spain, 20-9-09) and KF3 (Sarno, Italy, 6-9-09).

Drivers in the five support classes get the opportunity to contest the Challenge Cups and have their names engraved on these prestigious trophies. Cadet, Junior Restricted 100cc Yamaha, Junior 100cc Yamaha, 100cc Yamaha Light and 125cc Rotax Max Heavy will have a 20 lap final. Competitors with a minimum B KartSport New Zealand Licence or minimum B AKA Licence can enter the support classes.

The event will be televised with screening booked on TV1 Powerbuilt Motorsport and with follow up programmes on Sky Sport.

The weather in Hawkes Bay is normally hot and sunny in February. The region also offers great tourist attractions including its famous wine producing areas.

Full entry details are available at www.kartsport.org.nz and www.hawkesbaykartclub.org.nz

The closing date for entries is 9th January 2009 at 5.00 p.m. Late entries will be accepted up to 19th January 2009 with the required late fee.
