Team5150R Tests For Next Enduro Round

press release

Team5150R tested yesterday at the Nanango Kart Circuit, home of South Burnett Kart Hire, in preparation for Round 2 of the 2009 ProKart Queensland Endurance Series to be held at Gympie’s Cooloola Kart Club circuit on March 21-22.

The primary aims for the day were to correct a handling deficiency in Kart #51 (required improved turn in) and to further improve the already impressive performance of Kart #50; driven by Darren Farmilo and Ian McMah.

At our only previous test at the Nanango circuit; proudly owned and operated by Alan and Rose Osborne from South Burnett Kart Hire and located on the D’Aguilar Highway in Nanango, Queensland; we achieved a best lap time of 45.4 seconds on ‘used’ tyres. This time was improved when new tyres were fitted, to establish a best time of 44.7 seconds.

After a very strong result for both karts at Oran Park in Round 1 of the Australian ProKart Endurance Championship and in consideration that both karts were 100% reliable for the entire event, we initially focused our attention on kart #51; with all 4 team drivers working together, exchanging ideas, changing the setup and each providing invaluable feedback as we sought to improve the performance of the kart. An initial benchmark time (times vary considerably due to weather conditions) of 46.5 meant there was some work to do…

After some steering geometry changes we were immediately able to reduce this time by 0.6 of a second; under any circumstances a considerable gain and one that put both karts at a similar level in terms of lap time performance on the day.

All 4 team drivers; Darren Familo, Ian McMah, Allen Jones and Steve Prokop then resumed testing with both karts, undertaking a rear axle change in kart #50 (a different construction) This provided a significant improvement and saw kart #50 comfortably setting lap times on used race rubber from Oran Park (which by now would have done 9-10 hours of driving) that were similar to those achieved on new rubber at our previous test.

Kart #51 also ended the day with personal best lap times for both drivers and, with no damage or reliability concerns, the test was a considerable success for Team5150R.

It is now with confidence and continued momentum that we finalise our preparations for the next round of the ProKart Queensland Endurance Championships, a 7 hour race at Cooloola Kart Club on March 21-22, 2009.
