Nationals Entry Closes In 18 Days

AKA press release

Members of the Australian Karting Association are reminded that there are only 18 days remaining before entries close for the 47th National Sprint Kart Championships sponsored by Yamaha.

The National Championships, expected to attract in excess of 400 entries across the 10 categories, will be held at the Sun City Raceway in Townsville, Queensland across the Easter weekend (April 10 – 12).

Townsville is Australia’s largest urban centre north of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast and is seen as the unofficial capital of North Queensland.

Along with a superb karting facility, popular attractions for families and support crews planning to attend the championships include 'The Strand', a long tropical beach and garden strip; Riverway, a riverfront parkland attraction located on the banks of Ross River; Reef HQ, a large tropical aquarium holding many of the Great Barrier Reef's native flora and fauna; the Museum of Tropical Queensland, built around a display of relics from the sunken British warship HMS Pandora; and Magnetic Island, a large neighbouring island, the vast majority of which is national park.

The Townsville Kart Club has spent the last few years preparing for this Event and despite the recent heavy rain in the region Club President Ken Cann assures all competitors that the circuit is in superb condition.

“We are holding a Club Event today with the final shakedown meeting prior to the Nationals to be contested on March 21/22, which is one day after nominations close for the Nationals. At this meeting we expect to see a number of competitors from all across Queensland and various parts of the country participating,” said Cann.

“Over the past few months everyone in the Club has been working hard to ensure the venue will be in ship-shape condition and while the rain has set us back in a couple of areas it hasn’t stopped our preparations and the track hasn’t been affected at all.”

Official Practice for the 47th National Sprint Kart Championships will begin on Tuesday April 7 with qualifying to start on Friday April 10.

The Supplementary Regulations for the Event can be found on the regulations page on www.karting.net.au by clicking here. These regulations should also be read in conjunction with Addendum #1, which can also be found on the regulations page here.
