In a weekend of mixed fortunes and weather at Phillip Island, Victoria now has two new Victorian State Champions.

Last minute tyre selection was the order of the day with most of the leading contenders opting for the wrong choice at some point during the meeting.

A lucky escape was has for Rod Prickett during a rolling start when things got a little sideways in very slippery conditions. Tagged from behind by Greg Bass, Rod was lucky not to slam into the concrete barrier at high speed. Rod walked from the incident and the speed record kart came away a little worse for wear.

In a variety of battles for the lead and some great driving on the wrong tyres, Gary Pegoraro won the 250 Internationals ahead of Kristian Stebbing in second and Colin McIntyre in third. The first and third place being a pleasant birthday gift for Sponsor Ron McIntyre of Marron excavations.

Newcomer Steven Tamasi drove well in the trying conditions to grab a third place in the 125 cc Gearbox class from veteran Mick Bakker in second and last years winner Darren Dunn in first.

The next round of the State Championship will be contested at Sandown on May 23 & 24 for the Formula Rotax class.

Competitors and the Victorian Superkart Club acknowledge the efforts of P.I.A.R.C., officials and flaggies.
