Pearce Set To Return To CIK Championship

AKA press release

South Australian Tyson Pearce will make his return to the top level of Australian karting when he takes to Newcastle’s Mt Sugarloaf circuit for the opening round of the 2009 Australian CIK Karting Championship later this month (May 30/31).

Since winning the 2003 Australian Intercontinental C CIK Championship in 2003 Pearce has spent a number of years away from the sport – his first lengthy break since starting his career over 20 years ago – and is eager to get back behind the wheel.

29-year-old Pearce is no slouch behind the wheel having also won the 2002 New Zealand Formula 100 Championship plus an impressive eight State Championships.

“I’ve been around the sport of karting for all of my life, it has provided me with a lot of opportunities and enjoyment, I’m really excited about getting back behind the wheel,” said Pearce.

“Over the past few years I took a break to concentrate on other things going on in my life, including getting married and the birth of my first child Jett, and I can’t wait to get on track later this month.”

The South Australian will compete aboard an Omega kart, designed and manufactured by himself and his father Kym, as CIK-style racing makes a return to Australian shores after a five year hiatus.

“CIK racing is what I want to do. It has always been the pinnacle of karting for me and I’m looking forward to getting back into it,” said Pearce.

“With work commitments and a family life it makes it difficult for me to take almost a week off to compete at State Championships, which is why the CIK Championship is so attractive to me.”

Sydney driver Peter Hollings, a regular front-runner in the Clubman Light category at major events throughout New South Wales, has also confirmed that he will be lining up to make his CIK debut at Newcastle.

Some of the previous Champions of the Australian CIK Championship in the past have included V8 Supercar drivers Jamie Whincup, Mark Winterbottom, Michael Caruso and Tim Slade.

Further drivers competing in the Australian CIK Championship will be announced by Series Organisers over the coming weeks.

Competitors wishing to register for the Series should sign up by visiting www.rotax.com.au and go to the Pro Tour 2009 page. At the bottom of this, click the Registration button and in the class listing, choose "CIK-KF2”. Entries close for the opening round this Friday May 15, 2009.
