Wollongong City Raceway Jets Win Canberra 7-Hour

press release

After seven hours of continuous racing around the Fairbairn Park Kart Track, near Canberra in the A.C.T, the #3 Wollongong City Raceway Jets came out on top by winning the ‘Canberra 7 Hour’.

The ‘Canberra 7 Hour’, which was the eighth round of the Powered by Honda ProKart Australia NSW Endurance Kart Championship, resulted in one of the closest finishes of the year with only 16.5 seconds separating winners # 3 Wollongong City Raceway Jets and second place finisher and defending ‘Canberra 7 Hour’ winners the # 777 Horsepower Racing team.

Towards the closing stages of the ‘Canberra 7 Hour’ it was the # 777 Horsepower Racing team that paced the field but they had to make one final scheduled pit stop that handed the lead and the eventual victory over to the # 3 Wollongong City Raceway Jets.

For the # 3 Wollongong City Raceway Jets team their ‘Canberra 7 Hour’ victory was their fourth of the year in the NSW Championship. It has now only strengthened their command over their rivals in the point standings.

Completing the ‘Canberra 7 Hour’ podium was # 82 Team SPR in third place and it was yet another great result for the new outfit. For Team SBR this was their second podium finish of the year and they are proving that it won’t be too long before they are up there mixing for the winning honours.

The # 46 Starkey Motorsport finished fourth outright and took out the top ‘B Grade’ class honours. Behind the Starkey Motorsport team in fifth was the # 4 LJ Hooker Jets and they were followed across the finish line by # 04 Civic Video Racing, # 22 King of Parts, # 212 CJ Racing, # 14 Two Dogs Racing and in 10th was # 23 Bells Pipes Racing.

Although they were credited with a seventh place finish the impressive # 22 King of Parts team would have finished higher had they not encountered a steering problem during the last half hour of the race. The # 22 King of Parts team were a good shot at making the outright podium and were locked in a tight tussle with eventual third place finishers # 82 Team SPR up until their misfortune. For the # 22 King of Parts team this was their first outing in ProKart Australia competition since last year’s Eastern Creek 12 Hour.

Another team to have a result that didn’t match their true speed was the # 23 Bells Pipes Racing after their 10th place finish. After qualifying second, the Bells Pipes Racing team were right up there mixing it with the leaders throughout the early stages of the race but they suffered some misfortune and were unable to recapture that speed that they had shown earlier in the race. The Bells Pipes Racing team’s speed was so strong that they ended up recording the fastest lap of the entire race.

# 21 Walko’s Shire Racing was another team on the pace early and they had actually started the race from pole position by virtue of topping the time sheets in qualifying. A 14th place finish was certainly not a fair indication of the speed that they had demonstrated throughout the ‘Canberra 7 Hour’.

The ninth round of the NSW Championship is to be held on Saturday, October 17 at Wollongong City Raceway for the annual ‘Wollongong 12 Hour’.
