Mackay Kart Club Opens New Track

The official opening of the new track at Mackay took place on Saturday 12th September.

AKA Queensland president Gavin Dicinoski was present to officiate proceedings. Dicinoski and Pat and Mark Muscat cut the ribbon to open the track. Gavin could not believe the transformation in just six weeks and in his words the “bang for bucks“  the club has achieved.

A large number of members were present to herald in a new era in Mackay karting and to check out the new facilities and have a few drinks. Nathan Mills, winner of 2 state titles, won the raffle for the honour of driving the first laps on the new track. Mills took to the track in Marshall Watson’s national title holding kart for the first 5 laps on the new surface.

Nathan’s comments on the  new track were impressive, saying that it is as smooth as any hot mix surface he has raced on and would be an awesome track to drive in a Leopard.  The track now has a longer main straight with a new tight technical section.

Nominations for the Qld Closed Titles (Sept 26th/27th) are starting to roll in with between 150 and 180 entries expected to christen the new circuit where the 2010 Open State Titles will be held.
