Darley Day - Doing It For Scott

press release

The “Darley Day” has been put together to celebrate the life (and passing) of a valued club member and friend who died tragically last year in a Sprintcar accident at Parramatta City Raceway.

Scott and his family were instrumental in the mid 1990’s with the success of karting via the speedway network – in fact where we are today as a club and an integral part of karting can be attributed to the Darley family.

The Event
It is intended that a special race day be created in the NSW Speedway Kart Club calendar to honor the family.

The club membership as agreed by majority assent that the meeting being held on October 18th 2009 and in subsequent years be the meeting for Darley Day. This will not be  a club championship nor point score round but rather an opportunity for active AKA licenced members to race in Scotts honor and for others to share the experience.

It is intended that all activity on the day will revolve around the 2 special race numbers that Scott carried with him throughout his career, that being 13 and 19.

Format
That active and current AKA licence holders will compete within their respective classes over 2 x 13lap heats and 1 x 19lap final. Each class will compete for trophies in each class. An overall highest point scorer on the day will be awarded the "Scott Darley Achievement of Excellence" Trophy. Two additional events will be conducted on the day by friends and relatives of Scott’s.

Event Group 1
Family and Friends will make up a special class that will be competeting in Scott’s honor and will consist of  His Sisters Kate and Jayne his brother Luke and various close people to Scott being, pit crews members and close friends of Scott's.

Event Group 2
A Speedway Stars event to a maximum limit of 10 only which will involve special past and current Sprintcar, Speedcar, Litrecar competitors who were actively involved with Scott and the family for many years.  Such was Scott’s standing in the speedway community that a number of high profile racers have requested that they be part of this wonderful event .

The list is very impressive and befitting of the respect they  have for Scott . Stars such as speedway legends Dick Briton and sprintcar drivers Adrian Maher,  Ian Loudoun ,  Steve Caunt and Marty Perovich , Speedcar drivers Mark Brown, Jason Gates, Anthony Brien and Brett Morris and  Litre Car driver Joel Calvert.

Sprintcar driver and Sprintcar Club Executive member Mark Richards who was a close personal friend of Scott’s, will be the guest starter for the day.

Also getting involved will be the PCR crash crew who were all effected by Scott’s passing and have indicated that they would like to be involved .The guys  will be on the infield as flag men and assisting with the running of the meeting.

The events of Groups 1 & 2 will likewise be conducted over 2 x 13lap heats and 1 x 19 lap final as exhibition events. No current AKA licence holder is eligible to be involved within these 2 groups.

The day will also be marketed as an opportunity for the motor racing community to get together for a special day especially as we lead into the new current speedway season of 2009/2010.

Additionally Scott’s charity of choice “Cure our Kids” have indicated their acceptance of our invitation that they will be involved in the day with raffles, and an auction of motorsport memorabilia and the like with all proceeds going back to the kids in need.

Prizes to be raffled are , Coca Cola merchandise , two meat trays donated by Oakhill Meats , two kart steering wheels donated by Karting World  , 3 Sparco jackets donated by  International Karting Distributors , a large MABART photo of Scott’s sprintcar donated by Gary Stacey , hats and shirts donated by Garry Brazier. There are  two hampers being put  together by Carol Bellbowen which will have a lot of special things in them and are donated by The BellBowen Family .

In a great display of generosity Max Dumesny has signed and donated one of his race suits  that he wore in the early 90’s in his sprintcar and Nascar , the Dumesny family have a tradition of keeping  all their suits they wear so for Max to give this up shows just what this day is about and what it means to both the speedway and karting community

We would like to thank all the people and organization for getting behind this great event .
