Green Plates And Overseas Trips On Offer In Melbourne

AKA press release

In a fortnight’s time (October 31/November 1) one of the most exciting events on the Australian karting calendar for a number of years, the Formula 100 Nationals and Leopard Final Shootout, will be held at the home of the Go-Kart Club of Victoria in Port Melbourne.

In addition to the Formula 100 Light National Championship the event also includes the Australian Championship for the Formula 100 Heavy category. It will be the first time that the title has been held for the heavy division since 2000.

After claiming his maiden Australian Championship at the corresponding event last year, Adam Hughes will start as one of the favourites in the chase for the Formula 100 category.

However, not content to just focus on being one of the favourites Hughes will also take on some of the best drivers in the country in the Leopard Light class.

“I’m really looking forward to the event, it’s going to be huge,” said Hughes, who is also the reigning Victorian Leopard Light Champion.

“I haven’t raced, or even tested a Formula 100 powered kart since last year’s event, however, I’m very confident when I put my Kartune powered Kosmic on the grid that I’ll be on the pace. I only tested once before last year’s event, so hopefully that trend will continue this year as I’ll be testing for the first, and only, time next weekend.

“The competition in both Formula 100 and Leopard Light is going to be tough but I’ve had a good run at Todd Road this year with a win in the All Star Series and second in the City of Melbourne Titles, so I’m pretty confident of a good result.”

To be eligible to compete at the Leopard Final Shootout in the Leopard Light category drivers are required to have qualified through the Leopard sanctioned events held throughout the year across the country.

The Leopard Heavy class is open to ALL Leopard Engine competitors in Australia who have raced a Leopard engine this year in any AKA calendar event (even if it wasn’t a leopard sanctioned event or they raced in Tag 125, Leopard Class or Sportsman 125)

Remo Racing, promoter of the Leopard classes, are pleased to announce also that IAME's CEO, Filippo Fagnani is making a special trip to Australia to support the Leopard drivers at the Leopard Final.

In addition to the Championship and Shootout classes the event will see a return of the KZ2 (Intercontinental C) category, which will feature in next year’s Australian CIK Championship, along with a special appearance by the twin-engine 200 Super category.
