Nelson & Pringle To Go Head-To-Head Again

press release

Only after a few short weeks since the 2009 Leopard Heavy Final in Port Melbourne, Doyle’s Racing Kartsport’s’ driver, Queenslander 18yo Brendan Nelson will again go head to head with the CRG factory supported Team’s Rick Pringle in the 2009 Dunlop South Australian State Open Championships at Bolivar Raceway, just North of Adelaide.

Picking up where they left off after the chequered flag in Melbourne, Nelson and runner-up Pringle will again do battle in Adelaide in the Leopard Heavy class, but it’s not expected that they will have it all their own way.  South Australia’s own Paul Pittam may well upstage the duo.  The Omega chassis driver Pittam has been on fire this year behind the wheel, taking 2 Northern Territory State Titles in Clubman Heavy and Rotax Heavy.  The multi skilled SA Aussie Race Car and Formula Ford pilot will be a significant threat to his rivals.

Although Nelson was victorious with a convincing win at Port Melbourne, he knows that neither Pringle nor Pittam will be giving away any free passes this weekend in the hunt for the Blue Plate awarded to the 2009 State Champion.

Pittam and Nelson will also meet up again in the Clubman Heavy class at this week’s event with 25 other seasoned drivers, including National and various State Champions.  With drivers like Matthew Wall, Jason Hryniuk, Remo Luciani, Scott Simpson, Jason Burns and Lee Mitchener, the Clubman Heavy Final on Sunday at the Bolivar Raceway, will be one of featured highlights of the weekend and is sure to deliver some intense wheel to wheel action.

“As the defending South Australian Clubman Heavy Champion, Brendan has been preparing for this meeting for weeks.  Together with his parents, he’s bought a brand new Monaco chassis especially for his Championship defence and has been sorting his best engines.  You can’t imagine how hard and meticulously they’ve been working for this.  Having also won the Leopard Heavy Final earlier this month, he’s also exceptionally keen to re-stamp his new mark on that class,” said DRK Team Manager, Craig Doyle.

In addition to Brendan’s goals and aspirations for the weekend, fellow 12yo DRK Team driver Mitchell Gee will also be competing at Bolivar in the Junior National Light and Junior National Heavy classes.

“Like Brendan, Mitchell and his family have been preparing for SA event for some time.  With a choice of chassis options, they’ve settled on their Tony Karts for both of the junior classes.  It’s been a hectic few months of testing, but Mitchell has been very comfortable in the Tony Kart seats this year and will hope to capitalise on his win at the Coffs Harbour Yamaha event a few months ago,” said Doyle.  “Whatever our weekend outcomes are results wise, we’re just pleased to be travelling and to be a part of some of the toughest Karting competition there is in Australia.  Not everyone can win, but it’s reassuring to know that you’re solid competition for some of the best there is.”

This weekend’s championship will be the largest Karting event held in South Australia since the National Championships were held at the Bolivar venue in 2006.  With 15 categories being contested, catering for a variety weight divisions and engine capacities, some 300 drivers from as young as seven through to those on the other side of 50 will be in action.
