Charitable Femmes To Take Over Lithgow

This Sunday January 24 the Lithgow Kart Circuit will be inundated by around 100 fast femmes from across the country as the circuit revs up for the third annual All Ladies Race Day.

With female karters coming from across NSW, as far north as Townsville in Queensland and throughout Victoria, the event is set to be the epicenter of the Women’s Karting Community while raising much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Last year’s event saw over 90 women take to the track, with over $24,000 raised for the foundation.

The only one of its kind in Australia, the January 24 event will see the lady racers competing across a variety of categories from Midgets, aged between seven and ten years, through to the senior ranks where a number of ladies over the age of 50 will take to the track.

All competitors will be vying for the Nicole Franks Perpetual Trophy, in honour of the young female racer who was tragically killed in an incident during the Wollongong street meeting in 2002.

The winner will be based on the overall best performance on the day from one of the nine classes, and will receive a pink number plate and sash, their own trophy and their name engraved on the Perpetual Trophy.

Other activities on the day will include a Celebrity race – which will see both local and out of town celebrities take to the track, as well as a Fun Category of the Ladies Canteen Cup for women involved through karting through their families in both a over and under 30 category.

The night before there will also be a special auction held at the clubhouse to raise additional funds, with some great items up for grabs including two 8 lap stints in a Radical Sports Car, which is two seconds faster than a V8 Supercar around Eastern Creek.

This year’s Annual All Ladies Race Day is part of a four day program for the track, which kicks off over Thursday and Friday with a Junior Development Camp, with 84 racers aged from 7 to 15 years already booked in for this event from all over NSW.

Saturday will see a Junior only day in the morning including racing for Midgets, Rookies, Junior National Light, Junior National Heavy and Junior Performance, while the afternoon will culminate in enduro racing for the midgets and rookies (half hour) and the Juniors (45 minutes, excluding Junior Performance) before the track opens for ladies’ practice ahead of Sunday’s event.

Lithgow Kart Club Secretary Lillian Stones said that as the event builds into its fourth year in 2010 the participation and funds raised are expected to continue to grow.

“The Annual All Ladies Race Day is shaping up to be a great fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation once again as it enters its fourth year,” said Stones.

“Each year we have a campaign leading up to the event where we have a group of ladies selling Foundation merchandise and that is in full swing, with the top three sellers to be presented at the special dinner on Saturday night which will be followed by the auction.

“Then we have the actual race day for all our lady racers, including the celebrity race which is set to be quite exciting – we are also expecting to host two representatives of the Foundation on Sunday which we are very happy about.”

For those looking to try out the sport of karting before they invest in the necessary equipment, the Lithgow Kart Club is able to offer a Come and Try program – please contact Graeme Abbott on 0428 275 485 for more information.
