Baker Continues To Emerge As a Karting Star

Castle Hill (Sydney) racer Daniel Baker is continuing to emerge as a star on the Australian karting scene with victory in the Brian Farley Memorial at the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway recently.

With almost 60 of the best drivers from all across the country assembled for the prestigious event, Baker made the most of his opportunities to claim the biggest win of his career thus far.

“Going into the event I really didn’t know what to expect, I felt that I had a bit of a home track advantage but with so many top guys from all across the country I knew it was going to be tough to win,” said Baker.

“I went in there with the aim of qualifying somewhere inside the top ten, so when I qualified second fastest after the shootout I was pretty stoked. From there I worked hard to stay in contention and then on the last lap I was in the right place at the right time to come through for the win.”

Toowoomba youngster Tyler Greenbury qualified fastest and led the early running of the final. He was followed closely by South Windsor’s David Whitmore while the remainder of the pack battled intensely.

Entering the final lap the leading duo were running nose-to-tail with Baker, who started from seventh in the final, in third place several kart-lengths further back.

When the leaders touched entering the final corner Baker seized on the opportunity and found his way into the lead before going on to claim the victory ahead of Whitmore and fellow Sydney drivers Jason Hryniuk and Matthew Waters. Greenbury recovered from the final corner incident to finish fifth.

Baker will now turn his focus towards the other major karting events across the country including the opening event on the Rotax Pro Tour schedule in Victoria followed by the Victorian Championships at the Oakleigh circuit in Melbourne next month.
