Karts to Supercars For McLaughlin

Last year, Scott McLaughlin was winning kart races around the country. This year, he'll be competing in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar series. And at just 16, he will become the youngest driver to contest a V8 Supercar event.

McLaughlin will drive a Fujitsu-backed BF Falcon for Stone Brothers Racing in this year’s seven round championship. He recently started an apprenticeship with the team.

Unlike those before him, McLaughlin is effectively moving directly from karts straight into V8 Supercars, missing all of the traditional "feeder" categories such as Formula Vee and Formula Ford. He has tested cars from numerous categories, but apart from kart racing, has only competed in Gemini series events in Queensland.

No doubt David Sera (who is aligned with Kelly Racing) will be keeping a keen eye on Scott's progress...

“We’ve enjoyed previous success in the Development Series category when Mark Winterbottom scored the 2003 title while driving for our team" SBR's Ross Stone said. "So to have a young, level-headed driver who also works with us at the race shop, together with a high-profile sponsor in Fujitsu is a great way to commence our return to the series.  Scott will be on a steep learning curve both on and off track but I’m sure he will acquit himself extremely well.”

The 2010 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series kicks off on the streets of Adelaide during the weekend of March 11-14.
