NSW Speedway Karts, Round 1

press release

Sunday the 28th of February saw the 2010 season for the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club open in spectacular fashion to kick off its 20th year as a  club.

The meeting featured 82 karts facing the green flag in the 6th running of the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway Champion of Champions race. Such was the support for each class the Clubman light class was split into 2 classes due to exceeding the track density with the entries.

Whilst the weather was on the warm side the racing on track was red hot with all classes displaying great speedway action with 2 and 3 wide wheel to wheel racing all day.

Then 15mins after  the racing was over the heavens opened turning Nepean Motorsport complex into lake Nepean and a lot of the children and even some big kids all had a ball playing in the water and mud topping off what was a fantastic opening to the season.

The superbly prepared Nepean circuit supplied the prefect surface for the karts to showcase the sport in front of what was a very good crowd considering the hot day. Results for each class were as follows

The Midget Class sponsored by Mulgoa Quarries
1st Jake Donaldson, 2nd Kaidon Brown, 3rd Taylor Coghlan and the feature race winner was Kaidon Brown

The Rookie Class sponsored by Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway

The Junior Class supported by Impact Images

The Clubman Light Class sponsored by Wescranes

KT Modified Light sponsored by Hopping’s Mowers

KT Modified Heavy supported by Inside Speedway
1st Cameron Coghlan, 2nd John Watton, 3rd Graham Keats and the feature was won by Cameron Coghlan.
What made this a special day for Cameron and John was that they achieved this result in karts designed and built by them.

In the newly formed NSW Speedway Premier League the 3 teams that top the leader board are Big 1 Racing, The Benson Bandits and The Destroya’s. This concept was thought up by the NSWSKC along the lines of the speedway league overseas and it is a bit of fun brining juniors and seniors together in a team and racing off against the others. The league has been well supported in its first year and has 10 teams registered it will make for interesting reading as the season progresses.

As mentioned once the racing was finished an almighty storm hit the circuit and the rain was that hard presentation had to be called off and will be done at round 2. The storm lasted about 30mins and once it stopped the large group of families that stayed around to enjoy each others company had a ball watching the kids play in the water and mud. The laughter and fun topped off what was a fantastic day and start to this important season for the club.

The NSWSKC would like to thank TPCR for allowing the club to display karts at the venue on Saturday night and also for their support of the race meeting Sunday and of the Rookie class for the season. Don’t forget  to get down to TPCR on Saturday nights and catch the tail end of the Track Championship as former club member Mitchell Dumesny holds on to a slender lead trying to  defend his title .

The next meeting for the NSWSKC is on March 21st and all our details can be found on www.nswskc.com.au
