2010 King of Sydney Starts

press release

The Over 40s 'J drivers headed to Newcastle last weekend for the opening round of the King of Sydney series. All the drivers were keen to get out and race after a break from last year.

After qualifying it was obvious that Thornton had his act together and was going to be the one to beat. In fact he won every race on the day.

The battle for the minor places was between Borg, Riches, Morrison (the local) and Horsburgh. These drivers were all at each other all day with some good close racing.

The final saw Thornton gapping the field leaving Borg, Horsburgh and Morrison to battle for the minor places. Riches was coming second in the prefinal but a broken an accelerator cable put him at the rear for the final. He drove well in the final and worked his way to 5th place.

Result: 1st Thornton, 2nd Borg, 3rd Horsburgh.

It was great to see a lot of new faces competing. It just shows that Over 40 J racing is a great class for the more mature.

Tony D’Annibale, the NKRC President said “I am happy the Over 40s chose Newcastle for their fist round and they are welcome back anytime.”

At the presentation NKRC gave away a 2-night accommodation package to John Horsburgh. Dunlop Kartsports, Yamaha, Kart 1, CRG Race Centre, Parramatta Kart Warehouse, DTO and Pamspix all contributed in the prize pool.
A big thanks to all the sponsors and Newcastle Kart Racing Club.
