Hot 6th Annual Nepean Open

press release

Last Sunday (21st March) the New South Wales Speedway Kart Club held the 6th annual Nepean Open meeting which formed round 2 of the 2010 championship.

Whilst the day was hot, action on track by the 70 drivers that entered the event was even hotter. The weather played havoc with track conditions and the 35 degree day was drying the track quicker than usual, however multi lane racing was still achieved by the very talented drivers that attended.

As was the case in round one, the Clubman Light class had to be split into two groups such is the support for this class that again it was over subscribed.

After all the racing was completed the Speedsport Media sponsored highest points scorer for the round could not be split even after count back between David Boyd and Jason Woodward.

In the class placings, only Joel Rhind in Clubman Heavy and Nathan Camilleri in the Junior class, were able to back up their first round wins with wins in this round.

In the NSW Speedway Premier League, it was The Speedway Stars and the Old Fox team that scored high points for the day courtesy of playing their joker for the round . The Big 1 Racing team now holds a slender 1 point lead over a rapidly closing pack.

During the day the club also assisted Gavin Skeene with his Be Brave and Shave campaign and the club was able to contribute $500 to the Leukemia foundation.

On the day, two fantastic point scores were launched. The first involves the club owned junior sedan which one lucky junior driver will win for the 2010–2011 speedway season. Two years ago, the club purchased the car to help promote some young talent into the general speedway ranks. This program has been appreciated by those who have won it and no doubt this year’s winner will also enjoy their time in it while helping to promote the club.

The second was another fantastic offer, this time from the NSW Speedcar Club. On Sunday, the Speedcar Top Gun Challenge was launched.  This points score will see drivers between the age of 16 and 25 compete for the opportunity to win a drive in a fully prepared race ready speedcar at TPCR. This program again is designed to try and promote young talent into both general speedway and in particular the speedcar ranks.

All in all, Sunday was another great day of family fun and speedway racing for the NSWSKC and its members and friends.

The next meeting for the club will be on the 18th April when we conduct our 6th annual Celebration Day.

In our 20th anniversary year this day will also be promoted as a reunion of past members with some getting track time as we celebrate the achievements and successes the club has achieve in those 20yrs. It is hoped that many of the past members will attend to share some memories and relive past glories .
