Power, who recently won the Indy Car season-opening “Sao Paulo Indy 300” and Nelson, a Griffith University Sports Management Student, spent a quiet day earlier this year at the Warwick Kart Club’s Sandy Creek Raceway driving Karts, comparing driving lines and talking about their respective experiences in motorsport.

Young Nelson said, “It was really good to drive against someone that has made motorsport a real career, which I am aiming to do one day.  It was an honour to be able to spend time with Will and learn about the business to be done away from the track.  It’s also great to see someone from Toowoomba reach that far and that high in international sport.  It shows me that it can be done with enough motivation, the right knowledge and sound connections.”

Throughout the day at Warwick, Will was just as keen to learn about the technical aspects behind Brendan’s Leopard and Clubman Karting, as much as Brendan was keen to learn of Will’s experiences and advice in taking forward career steps in motorsport.

“It was a great relaxed day and a genuine pleasure to watch Brendan and Will interact.  They are both so obviously passionate about motorsport and were engrossed in conversation for much of the day,” said Doyle’s Racing Kartsport Team Manager, Craig Doyle.  “It’s exceptionally gratifying to us to see someone of Will’s skill and experience, take the time and be genuinely interested in a young driver like Brendan.  Karting is again on the front foot and we need to encourage more of these mentoring opportunities for young Karters with successful Australian drivers in the future.”

Nelson is now preparing his Leopard 125cc and Clubman Yamaha 100cc entries for Round 1 of the 2010 Supercheap Auto Kart Series to be held at Toowoomba Kart Club’s Greer Park Raceway this coming weekend, 10th & 11th April, 2010.  As last year’s Supercheap Auto Kart Series Champion, Nelson considers this year will be amongst the toughest yet.
