Hayes Heads For Commodore Cup

matt hayesVictorian karter Matthew Hayes will make his V8 Commodore Cup debut at round three of the Shannon’s National Racing series at Phillip Island on May 1 and 2.

Hayes, who was involved with much of the testing of the Phoenix chassis, will drive a Ray Beckerley prepared VH Commodore. He is expected to graduate to a VS model later in the season.

Since starting in 1997, Matt’s karting career has included six State titles, three City of Melbourne Titles and two Val Findlay’s against the top karters of the day.

The event will also be the opening round of the Australian Superkart Nationals (see seperate story).

Current and former V8 Supercar drivers and ex karters who have raced in V8 Commodore Cup include Lee Holdsworth, Paul Dumbrell, Shane Price, Steve Owen, Darren Hossack, Stephen White, Christian D’Agostin and Marcus Zukanovic among others.

More recent karters to have raced the category include Nick Parker, Josh Hughes, Scott Andrews, Danny Richert, Jason & Craig Domachenz, Daniel Orr, Brett Holdsworth & Michael Tancredi.
