press release

The running of round 3 in the highly competitive New South Wales Speedway Kart Club  Championship will be held this Sunday 30th May  at Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road Castlereagh.

Over 80 very skillful speedway kart drivers will be contesting the Hopping’s Mowers sponsored 6th annual Shootout meeting .

The club is honored to have a speedway legend like Sid Hopping involved in the club and we thank him for his generous sponsorship of our club .

He has been involved with speedway over a vast number of years and has achieved so much from the sport. Her has been involved in all facets of sport form riding solos, sidecar, driving modified sprintcars and of course building and successfully promoting Parramatta City Raceway. To have him still involved at this level goes to show his undying passion for the sport of speedway.

Leading the Championship going into Sunday’s event is 14 year old Nathan Camilleri. He has a 1 point lead over Joel Rhind and the rest of the pack is chasing closely behind them with the top 10 only separated by 19 points.

Leading the way for the girls is the very talented 9 year old Taylor Coghlan in that 10th position.

The meeting on Sunday will be the first long track meeting of the year and will give drivers a final chance to fine tune there machines before the NSW State Titles which will be held in 3 weeks time on the June long weekend.

The title weekend will see over 100 drivers converge on the Nepean complex over 2 days  to try and claim their piece of speedway karting history by becoming a NSW State Champion. All eyes will be on John Watton as he goes for 3 in a row.

However before we get to that we have a wonderful day planned this Sunday. The racing is scheduled to start at 10am and the 28 events should conclude around the 3pm mark. At which time all spectators are encouraged to stay back for the presentation and celebrate the day with club members.

We have at Nepean full canteen facilities where you can get a cost affordable lunch. At only $5 per adult entry what better way to get your off season speedway kick then coming out to Nepean and watching some of the stars of the future.
