The weather may be freezing at the moment, however the intensity in the 2010 New South Wales Speedway Kart Club championship is heating up.

In another bonus for the club and its members the round was sponsored by Hopping’s Mowers and legendary speedway competitor and promoter Sid Hopping was on hand to present the hardware at the end of the day.

The KT Modified  Heavy class was first on track and Cameron Coghlan continues his dominance this season by taking 3 heat wins and a 3rd place in the final to take overall points honors on the day. Following home Cameron was Wayne Baines in 2nd  and “Rocket” Rod Burns rounded out the top 3 for the day.

The Formula 100 class had a small but quality field and the 480mtr long track really allows these drivers to get the most from their karts topping speeds of well over 100km/hr. Newly crowned State Champion Nathan Bailey continued his winning ways taking out the round win. Coming home  in 2nd place was Donald Stevens and in 3rd place was the ever consistent Sean Mayo.

The Mighty Midgets hit the track with a larger than normal field and the 12 drivers all drove with maturity well above their age some as young as 7. The field had six 1st year drivers  and 4 of them out for their 1st day.
However as would be expected the experienced drivers would go onto claim the podium positions.
On the top step at the end of the day was Jake Donaldson who won 2 heats during the day. The driver finishing 2nd was young lady racer Brittany Hickey and in 3rd was Andrew Sayre.

The next class saw 15 Clubman light drivers face the starters green and when the final  points were tallied Jason Woodward fresh from his State title win would go  on to claim victory in the class. His feature race drive from position 14 to win was a highlight of the day. Following in 2nd place on the day was Michael Jordan and the 3rd place went to David Boyd.

The Clubman Heavy class had an interesting day such is the closeness of the racing all 9 drivers at some stage had a DNF meaning no one really knew where the points would end up.

However when the trophies were handed out “The Old Fox “ Les Green  would come out on top winning the day and he was followed home by Adam McDermott in 2nd and tied in 3rd was James Camilleri and Tim Baker. It was great to see Adam’s result as he has been knocking on the door of a podium finish but just not quite getting there but  now he has tasted success this is no doubt not the last time we see him up there.

The Rookies class was missing a few regular drivers but still had a very good field of 5 talented young drivers.  The first place for the day was taken out by Luke Sayre who had a great day winning 2 heats and his final. In 2nd place was Andrew Beattie and rounding out 3rd was Kyle Angel. The lone lady racer in the field Taylor Rietdyk was only just out of the points after pushing the boys hard all day and another 1st year racer Peter Seckold continued to learn getting some valuable track time .

The final class to race on Sunday was the spirited Junior class. The quality field of 12 drivers certainly entertained the crowd with some fantastic driving. The beauty of this field at the moment is all these young adults are very friendly and always display sportsmanship both on and off the track .

After the hectic heats and final were completed it was “The Buff Man “ Nathan Camilleri continuing his winning season taking out first place. Another very good young driver Reagan Angel from the Central Coast took out 2nd place and making it 3 Sayre karts on the podium on the day , Daniel Sayre came home in 3rd place .

  • The Speedsport Media high points award went to Jason Woodward with 122pts.
  • The Stillshots Art Of Speedway Racing award went to Donald Stevens.
  • The On Track Automotive Hard Luck award was given to Liam Camilleri.

In the NSW Speedway Kart Premier League the top 3 points teams were B.I.T Racing with 401 pts, The Benson Bandits with 393pts and Jaw Motorsport with 349 pts. Leading the premiership table is The Big 1 Racing team followed by the Benson Bandits.

Round 3 provided  a great day of racing and in their own form of speed week the NSWSKC  hits the track again on Sunday.
