Contact Causes Struggle For Visser At WSK

press release

In Portugal, Beitske Visser had a very disappointing experience. Marked by a few accidents, the debut of the WSK World Series did not go as the Dutch driver had hoped. Now Beitske has only one goal: to get moving again as quickly as possible.

Galvanised by her victory in one heat of the European KZ2 Championship, Beitske Visser arrived in the magnificent Algarve region, in Southern Portugal, fully confident. On that occasion, karting shared the stage with the WTCC World Touring Car Championship and the Formula 2, hosted in the car racing circuit located just a few dozen meters away. The event allowed the WSK to take advantage of greater media coverage, including the presence of Eurosport TV cameras.

Beitske-Visser-KZ2.jpgAlways feeling very much at ease on fast circuits, Beitske joined the lead pack immediately, amid drivers who are used to racing in the higher category, KZ1. After a promising 4th best lap time in timed qualifying, she repeated her speed performance by setting the best lap time in the first heat. Then, all her hopes were still intact, but the situation degraded quickly in the second heat. "I got involved in a collision already at the start", the Dutch girl regretted. "In addition to being forced to retire, the Intrepid team realised that my chassis was too twisted to be manageable".

Forced to fall back on her second chassis, with different technical characteristics, she could not find the same balance anymore and could not fully exploit the power of her TM engine prepared by Tec-Sav. But Beitske did not give up. Relegated in the second part of the pack, she realised that the podium was out of reach, but started the final with the firm intention of recovering as many places as possible.

"The third heat and the pre-final were very difficult. I gave the team as much information as I could, we learnt some lessons from it and we changed a few elements with a view to the final race. I started a nice recovery to score as many points as possible, but a mechanical engine problem stopped my progression. I have accumulated a lot of bad luck in two days and I really hope that such accidents will not happen again this year. I have climbed on the podium several times since the beginning of the season and I am determined to repeat that experience as soon as possible". What better occasion than next round of the WSK World Series, which will be held in the United States, in Millville (New Jersey)?
