Race Report - Wollongong, July 11

The skies looked as grey as the track at  the Wollongong Kart Racing Club’s third round of its Club championship. But with the track in pristine condition and the race entries building, the clubs officials were anticipating a day of close and competitive racing and they weren’t disappointed.

Tag Restricted Heavy saw  Homebush Karts team mates Andrew Dorahy and Pawel Faber tussle between themselves with Andrew coming away with the win. Tag Restricted Light was won by Mark Robin.

Rookies had Stefan Stankovic giving Hayden Sunderland a run for his money in the final with a last lap pass by Hayden clinching a   perfect score for the day for Hayden. Cody Gillis stamped his mark on the Midget field with Jessie Attard and fellow club member Nathan Rourke keeping him on his toes right up to the line.

Tag Light  was dominated by local speed demon Dominic Marciano. Jeff Tressider cleaned up Tag Heavy with a series of convincing wins all day. Rotax Light proved to be a shake up with Edward Cranswick winning after a  mixed bag of results during the day. Locals Grant Gaffa, Endo Medicino & Chad Horsley just couldn’t match his pace in the final. Mathew Elliott white washed the Rotax Heavy field finishing first in all 5 races.

Kartingworld’s Adam Hunter came out and proved he and business partner Mark can put together a winning package, with Adam claiming first place ahead of Dominic Marciano & Malcolm Boyd in Clubman Heavy.
Local Mathew Southwell proved that during the week he works on Jets being an Apprentice at Qantas, but on the weekends he drives one,  taking out 1st in Clubman Light with David Meadows second  and new comer to Clubman Light racing Chad Horsley finishing third.

Senior National Light saw Cameron Moss winning the final in front of Stephanie Sandrone and Alex Henry. All three battled for the lead all day, proving how close the class is around the Wollongong track. Gary Cosis won Senior National Heavy ahead of Cameron’s older brother Bradley.

Lachlan Jones what looked like a swarm of bees around the Wollongong track to win the Junior National Heavy final after a consistent battle with James Taylor and Mitchell Leeson. Junior National Light  had Ryan Suter win all three heats and the PreFinal, but a DNF in the final gave  Jordan Zammit the win ahead of Jono Gauci and Alex Lawrence.

JMax  & Junior Clubman gave the crowd a taste of top class junior racing in what will be hotly contended classes as the numbers continue to grow. Jack Bennett brought home the goods in the final of JMax  and Lachlan Jones took home the daily double with a win in Junior Clubman.
