Up & Down Day For Mills Bros Racing At Horsepower Heaven

press release

MBR had a rather up and down day at the final round of the 2010 Horsepower Heaven Series. MBR #2 Mathew Mills in his First/Parilla/MG powered machine, although not completing the whole Final, still claimed 3rd place for the round in Formula 100 Heavy. He was put out of the Final in the closing stages due to a faulty engine sprocket which eventually wore all the teeth off. This was after managing to hold onto 4th place in the Pre-Final, when he lost all brakes after lap 3. Mathew qualified 3rd and finshed the first two heats there also. This 3rd place for the round secures 2nd place in the overall standings for the 2010 Horespower Heaven Series in the Formula 100 Heavy class, although Mathew was leading the series before entering this final round, this is a great result for Mathew and the team.

MBR #11 James Mills in his BRM/TM/Dunlop powered kart, making his debut in the KZ2 Gearbox category has seen better race weekends. After some solid testing, with some fast lap times posted and James being very optimistic about his chances of battling with the top drivers this weekend, in Qualifying James battled an unexpected problem with the engine seemingly cutting out and not clearing, dropping his lap times off by over 2.5 seconds per lap from testing (on which there was still room for improvement), therefore handing him 18th place (last) on the grid for the heats. In heat one after trying some changes to eliminate the problem, the engine was still clearly off-beat but had improved somewhat, so James stayed out there gaining 3 positions to finish 15th. In heat two after trying some other changes to get the problem fixed, the kart barely started and barely stayed going for the first lap and then eventually came to a halt on the way back to the pit on lap two, losing all compression and therefore eliminating James for the rest of the event.

James now looks ahead to his debut in the CIK Stars of Karting Series, where he will be competing in the final round at the GKCV in two weeks time "Although today wasn't the ideal lead up to CIK that we were looking for, we still believe we will come back strong and fresh with all our problems fixed and we have definately learnt a lot of things about the KZ2 class this weekend which is new to us, that will help us move forward in the future, so I am definately looking for a solid result at CIK at my home track, as we know we have the pace when everything comes together, and we will be putting the hours in to ensure these problems don't arise again" said James.

The CIK Stars of Karting Series final round will be held on August 6-8th at the Go-Kart Club of Victoria."
