Speed Comparison Show at CIK Final

press release

This weekend’s final round of the 2010 CIK Stars of Karting Series in Melbourne will feature a unique demonstration across the weekend highlighting the different levels, and speeds, of Australian karting.

Featuring three karts in TaG Restricted, 125cc IAME X-30 and Pro Light (KF1) specification, the demonstration will be run in a similar vain to the speed comparisons seen at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix across the years.

Each of the karts will have two practice runs on Saturday morning before a ‘handicap’ time is decided upon for the four five-lap encounters to be held across the weekend.

With a difference in lap times of up to five seconds and a top speed difference of over 20 km/h, the demonstration should provide quite a spectacle.

“We had a gap in the program open up when there was a lack of numbers in the Rotax support class, so we’ve come up with this idea where we can highlight to drivers and spectators alike the different levels of the sport,” said CIK Stars of Karting Series co-ordinator Peter Galvin.

“With the CIK Stars of Karting Series being an event where we are looking to attract more general public to come out and check out our sport it makes sense to provide them with a look at the stepping stones that are available in our categories.”

Practice for the final round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series hosted by the Go-Kart Club of Victoria at the Port Melbourne Karting Complex will begin on Friday. Qualifying and heat races will be contested on Saturday followed by the Finals on Sunday.

Admission for Spectators is Free. The Port Melbourne Karting Complex is located on Todd Road at Port Melbourne.
