Monster Performance Hunts Down A Bear At Ontario

press release

Monster Performance of Sudbury, Ontario recently traveled to Shannonville Motorsport Park for the 2010 version of the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship Ontario Grand Nationals. The annual weekly event draws a majority of the best two and four-cycle karters, and this year was no different, where 447 entries were calculated. Monster Performance arrived with eight drivers powered with engines prepared by Monster Performance’s Clayton Switzer, and many more drivers utilizing the ThorBrake system available exclusively in Canada from Monster Performance.

“I’m really happy with five top-fives in Shannonville,” commented Clayton Switzer of Monster Performance. We had eight drivers with Monster Performance engines and earned five top-fives, and also earned a pole-position, I cannot complain with that.”

Headlining the performances by Monster Performance members, Andrew Prescott earned himself and Monster Performance their first Ontario Grand National Bear, with a stellar run to victory on Sunday afternoon in the always-competitive Honda Jr. Heavy class. In only his third full season of karts, the young Prescott has turned heads, and earned plenty of respect on track.

“It is really awesome for Andrew (Prescott) to win a Bear,” continued Switzer. “I think he is the first Bear winner from northern Ontario in a very long time. I’m very proud of him.”

Monster Performance engines also earned a podium in the Honda Masters class. Phil Taus put forward a brilliant drive to come home in third place on Sunday afternoon. Taus qualified in sixth place, battled hard but fell one position in the pre-final to seventh, then rebounded to eventually finish in third spot in the final. Also in Honda Masters, Steve Durkac finished right behind Taus in fourth spot, powered by a Monster Performance motor and also utilizing a ThorBrake system.

In the Honda Jr. Lite class, Tyler Brady used his Monster Performance powered kart to finish an impressive fourth place Sunday afternoon. After Qualifying in eighth, and moving one position forward in the pre-final to seventh, he utilized his power, and worked forward towards the lead group in the final, crossing less than a tenth of a second behind third place.  Tyler’s brother Dylan also qualified on the pole-position in Friday’s Jr. Lite race, but some bad luck kept him from finishing where he started.

Finally, Monster Performance also scored a top-five finish in two-cycle Rotax competition, as Braxton Terry drove a great race in Rotax Mini-Max to cross the finish line in fourth position. Falling as low as fourteenth in the final race, Terry charged forward, picking off kart after kart, eventually finishing in fourth place, just narrowly missing the podium.

Monster Performance will continue to race at their local Sudbury Kart Club for the remainder of 2010, hoping to secure a few class championships in the upcoming events. They will also return to BSRKC action on August 28 and 29 at the Innisfil Indy for the final four-cycle event of the season. Both Andrew Prescott, Jr. Heavy, and Tyler Brady, Jr. Lite, sit in sixth place entering the final event and hope to step into the top-five.
