Rotax Rankings Announcement From IKD

press release

To all Rotax Karters,

After the announcement we made about changes to the Rotax Rankings on 9th August, we have had numerous enquiries from competitors about the accuracy of the points.

IKD has investigated the claims and unfortunately we have found some errors within the points as they were. I now need to explain the sequence of events so that everyone is fully aware of the situation and the actions we have taken to rectify it.

In 2009, the ranking system was administered via a manual system. We soon realised that the manual system would not cope with the complexities of the rankings longer term, so we contracted a software company to tailor make us a piece of software to control the rankings. We invested considerable time and money into the new software system and we are very happy and confident with the end result.

When we went live with the new software, the existing data from 2009 was imported as it was via a spreadsheet. We now know that there were numerous errors contained within this data, effectively meaning that the points that have been published are incorrect. In most cases, competitors have received more points than they should have. This is an unfortunate error for which we accept responsibility for and are now obliged to fix.

IKD is committed to ensuring that the rankings are correct as they are an integral part of the success of Rotax racing in Australia.

So yesterday, we removed all 2009 data (that was input into the software via the spreadsheet) and re-entered it, thereby ensuring that the software system itself has calculated and tabulated ALL the points.

This task is now complete and the data is now correct.

The corrected rankings are being released on the website together with this announcement and the impact on points is noticeable.

I reiterate that it is extremely important that the points are correct, especially in the lead up to the Rotax Nationals and driver selection for the World Finals. I am sorry for the confusion that this caused but IKD has to take every step possible to rectify it and re-instate confidence in the Rotax rankings system.

If you would like to verify your points for your own piece of mind, do not phone IKD, you need to email Samantha using samantha@internationalkarting.com and ask her to email you back a copy of your competitor history from the system.

See you all at the Rotax Nationals.

Best regards,
Ian Black
