On a superbly prepared, super fast, wide race track, the 74 drivers in attendance enjoyed their wheel to wheel racing and with only one incident to report. They all went home with big smiles on their faces as they wait in anticipation of round 7 on the 26th of September.

The only incident of the day was in heat 1 of the Clubman Heavy Class  when Les Green (the old fox ) got together with David Cochran and ended upside down re-naming himself (the flying fox).

On the day, 7 classes competed and first up was the KT Modified Heavy Class, sponsored by V8max.com. again, it was Cameron Coghlan continuing his dominance of the class winning his 6th straight round. He had 3 wins out of 4 races and only John Watton would stop the clean sweep. John finished in the 2nd place on the day and James Robertson was 3rd.

Next on track was the KT Modified Light class sponsored by Hopping’s Mowers, and the Coghlan Clan were again victorious with Greg Coghlan taking out the class honours as well as being the overall highest points scorer of the day. Greg was able to do what Cameron couldn’t and won all 4 races on the day assuring no one could beat him. Coming home in 2nd  was sprintcar star Peter Bourke and following him in 3rd was lady racer Louise Stevens.

The Mighty Midgets sponsored by Coghlan Oval Track Racing  were next out and supplied the best racing of the day with all drivers displaying great driving skills and friendly sportsmanship. The Midgets had another strong field of 12 drivers and at the end of the day it was Kaidon Brown with 3 wins from 4 racers taking out the win for the day. The second step on the podium was filled by Jake Donaldson  and it was new driver to the field in only his third race meeting, Liam Walker, taking out 3rd place. The Midgets continue to get stronger and the future of the sport is in very good hands indeed.

The premier class, Formula 100, sponsored by PR Machine, tore up the track next and Sean Mayo stood tall at the end of the day as the winner of the class and he was followed home by Wingless sprintcar driver Nathan Bailey and in 3rd was the consistent elder statesmen of the class Donald Stevens.

The small but quality Rookie field, which was sponsored by Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway, would display their skills next and again the winner of the class on the day, Kyle Angel, won 3 from the 4 events and was very quick. The second placing for the day was taken by Luke Sayre and the current Australian champion Corey Foyle found some missing form to finish 3rd.

The Inside Speedway sponsored Clubman Heavy class produced another surprise on the day with lady driver Kristen Stewart in her 2nd race meeting ever finishing 3rd.  However it was James Camilleri and Tim Baker going hard at each other all day and it would be Tim who would come out on top and win the days event. James finished 2nd and it will be these 2 guys that will now fight out the championship in the class which should provide some great racing in the last 2 events.

The 15 strong Wescranes Sponsored Clubman Light class was the last class on track. As the saying “save the best for last “ goes, these drivers didn’t let anyone down. The feature race was watched by everyone at the venue and the class turned it on. The feature was won by Jason Woodward but the drive from Kyle Pollock from 12 to 3 was great to watch as he cut his way through the traffic. This drive would assure he would take out the win on the day. Coming home in second was Michael Jordan only 2 points behind Kyle. These 2 guys were at it all day and provided some of the best speedway kart action seen for some time.  Finishing 3rd for the day was David Boyd .

  • Speedsport Media High Points award : Greg Coghlan

In the premier League, The Benson Bandits took out top points followed by The Destroya’s . The Bandits still lead and The Big 1 racing team are just holding onto 2nd with a fast finishing Destroya team.

The racing finished early on Sunday and after the presentations were complete, members and families stayed around until about 5:30 enjoying the atmosphere of a fun family day that was the 2010 Classic meeting.
