A1 Driver Report: Queensland

press release

A1 Engines QLD Junior drivers, Declan Fraser, (Midgets) and Jake Downs, (Junior National Light), competed in the Mackay club meet on Saturday 14/08/10 while Brock Owen took the long road trip to Toowoomba to compete in the Midget class at the fourth round of the Super Cheap Series.

Declan took the win in all 3 heats, and continued his dominance over the midgets to take the win in the pre final and the final showing a clean pair of heels from start to finish. Declan had a strong showing at the QLD States and continues to improve, he will be a strong contender for the Whitsunday Titles in September which will attract the top QLD Midget drivers.

It was Jake’s debut to the Junior National Light class. With no testing prior to race day. Jake showed the class he was someone to keep an eye on. With some close racing throughout the day with fellow Mackay driver Hayden Schneider. It was a thrilling final race after the pair came into lap traffic on the final turn and finished only centimetres apart across the finish line. Jake and Hayden were tied for points after the final, with the overall win going to Hayden, and Jake placing 2nd.

Brock Owen competed at the Toowoomba Supercheap with a mixed bag of results. After being strong in practice, Brock had to overcome some technical issues in the early heats to finish 3rd in the final, after starting in position 7 for the final race.  The determined performance of Brock demonstrated why he is hard to beat on his home track of Rockhampton.

A1 QLD Junior drivers will head next to Mackay on 18th September for the Whitsunday Titles which will be hotly contended as one of North Queensland's prominent meetings.
