1000+ Laps In 24-Hour Event

Daytona Motorsport (widely recognised as one of the UK's finest karting venues), held its second 24-hour race last weekend, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October. With over 30 teams taking part in both Vodafone DMAX and Daytona Prokart classes, the event, for the first time, also featured a 200mph Mercedes SLS pace car.

The race also paid tribute to the razzmatazz of that other 24-hour race mecca, Le Mans, with scantily clad cheerleaders, a Red Bull sampling team and live online scoring for fans to keep an eye on the action on the web. After 24 hours of close-fought competition the results are as follows:

Pro-Kart Class
Winners - Marshal Monstersport: 1080 laps
Runners Up – Pro RDI: 1078 laps
Third – Team Abbey: 1077 laps

DMAX Class
Winners – Team Autosport Mercedes Benz: 1133laps
Runners Up – RDI 3: 1129 laps
Third – Team Given: 1129 laps (30 second difference from kart in front)

According to general manager Mike Yau; “For our second ever 24 hour race we were lucky with fantastic weather, a sell-out grid and massive support from the fans and families of the racers. There was good, close and exciting racing throughout the event and bumper to bumper action for the full 24 hours. We are certain that the 24-hour race format is now at Daytona to stay and can’t wait until next year for which some teams have already booked their places. What a weekend!”
