Preview: Mt Gambier's Junior Showdown '6'

Mt Gambier is gearing up to welcome sprint kart drivers to the Blue Lake City as the club hosts their biggest ‘Junior’ race meeting of the year.

Unlike previous years, this event will incorporate a “Top 5 Shootout” which will be conducted for all classes prior to finals on Sunday.  The 5 leading drivers in each class, at the completion of the fourth heat, will be eligible to take part in a “flying lap” solo against the clock. Prizes and a trophy will be presented to each shootout winner per class.

Competition will intensify as driver’s line up for the running of the finals on Sunday afternoon. At the conclusion of racing, prizes and trophies will be awarded down to 5th place and trophies will be presented for the first D Grade licence holder across the finish line in each class.

Morgan Feast, last year’s winner in the Rookie Class will be looking to repeat his 2009 performance.  Three other local drivers - Josh Munn, Callan Belmonte and Joel Robinson - will be attempting to secure one of the top five positions in the Rookie Class as they compete against visiting driver Dylan Howell from the Barossa.

Todd Hazelwood will be traveling from Adelaide to repeat his winning achievements from 2009. Hazelwood will be competing in the Junior Clubman Class against local female driver Stephanie Munn and in the Junior Heavy Class against local youths Ryan Broome and Sam Baker.

In Junior National Pro Sam Baker and the Broome Brothers Mitchell & Ryan will be hoping to captalise on their home track advantage as they race against Jake Dixon from the prominent Oakleigh Club in Victoria. Dixon will also compete in the Junior National Light Class against local hopeful Mitchell Broome

Mt Gambier’s Kirby Hillyer has had a good season this year and hopes to provide a strong performance in the Rookies Class at this year’s event.
