Binga Blasts Back; Brittany Brains the Boys

press release

Brinley Gread has bounced back to form in dominant fashion at Newcastle’s Rotax Pro Tour event today (Saturday), going through Rotax DD2 qualifying and all three heats in top placing, whilst Brittany Hall has proven equally dominant in Junior MAX Heavy.

Tyler Greenbury (Rotax Light), Pierce Lehane (Junior MAX Light), Bruce Otter (Super Heavy) and Danny Woodland (Over 35s) have been similarly undefeated,  whilst Rotax Heavy is balanced nicely for a big battle tomorrow.

Gread couldn’t have started the new Rotax Rankings points season in better fashion, but cautions that tomorrow is another day – with the finals carrying the rankings points.

“The finals are a long way tomorrow and there’s the threat of rain,” he said. “It’s a great feeling to be right at the top again, but I’m not getting too excited until I see the chequered flag at the end of 20 laps tomorrow.”

Debutantes, Jackson Delamont and Jaie Robson are looking impressive, so too Damian Ward. Thomas MacDonald has had his best run thus far in DD2, similarly CRG pilot, Grant Donley. Jack Lindgren is carrying local hopes and has been solidly around the top five all day.

14-year-old CC Racing supported pilot, Brittany Hall has moved into the Junior MAX Heavy division this weekend and hasn’t looked like being headed. After stealing pole position from Tony Anthony in the dying moments of qualifying two (0.02 the difference), it was just the impetus she needed to go on and record three solid heat race victories.

Anthony recorded three second placings, but mid-north NSW Coaster, Dale Corbett ran him right to the flag in heat number three and will be one to watch in tomorrow’s finals. Both survived a scary moment at the beginning of heat three. Corbett tagged the back of Anthony, spinning the Arrow pilot. He inadvertently tagged Liam Heaton whose Intrepid spun several times on the main straightaway, narrowly avoiding the tyre wall. All were able to continue.

Tyler Greenbury is showing typical early weekend form in Rotax Light – despite a nasty case of sunburn. The Queenslander didn’t have it all his own way though, with wily veteran Mick Robson slotting his Kosmic on the front row and really giving Greenbury some early race trouble.

The man (well, kid) everyone’s impressed with though is CRG racer, Trent Grubel. The youngster’s Troy Farley prepared machine has been a jet – it’s his first major Senior event. He’s scored a brace of P3’s and finished heat three in second…running Greenbury to the flag.

By far he has been the best of the Junior graduates, but Macauley Jones is quickly getting a handle on things and Jaymee Frampton is showing pace too.

Pierce Lehane is looking good for his eighth consecutive Rotax Pro Tour podium – with this one more than likely being the top step. There hasn’t been a racer yet to challenge the CRG racer, his biggest rival, Joseph Mawson copping plenty from the dirty side of the racetrack during heats.

Jaxon Evans has been solid, but suffered a heat one DNF. Mitchell Gee will figure in proceedings tomorrow, as will Blake Waters and Michael Stewart. R360 pilot, Renee Gracie has been showing a great turn of speed too.

Rotax Heavy has been the most hotly contested category of the weekend, with William Yarwood and Troy Woolston swapping wins. Daniel Stein has been consistently at the front despite yesterday having no pace whatsoever, whilst Paul Rodgers has been arguably the quickest driver there, his qualifying position has compromised his ability to be on racing terms with those up front. That will change tomorrow.

Danny Woodland is by far and away the class of the Over 35s field recording three heat race victories, as has Bruce Otter in the Rotax Super Heavy class.

Tomorrow will see Pre-Finals and Finals conducted around the Newcastle Circuit – which is being run in reverse this weekend.
