Oakleigh Ready (Again!) For Jnr Top Guns

The Oakleigh kart track is ready for the Junior Top Guns double-header this Friday and Saturday night.

After last Friday's Round 1 was washed out when the track flooded (see the Daily News, Jan 14), the Top Guns will now race this Friday and Saturday nights, Jan 21 & 22.

“We estimate that we pumped some half a million litres of water out of the track” club President Adam Bourke informed KartSportNews. “We have also had a street sweeper on the track and amazingly we had it open again by 2pm Saturday.”

The facility experienced some major flooding along the back straight and canteen corner. This was due to levy banks breaking in one of the neighbouring properties, releasing a deluge of water into the club's grounds.

“I would like to thank the karters and their families for their patience and understanding on Friday with the decisions that were made" Bourke continued.

"I would also like to thank the Oakleigh members that helped over the 24 hours from Thursday night to Friday to try and get the race happening - it was an effort that goes beyond what any member should have to do for their club, and to those that had the track up and running by Saturday, again I thank you.”

The track is now clear of flood water and open for practice. Any interstate drivers who have stayed in Melbourne for the rescheduled event, can contact the club if they need track access for practice during the week - www.ogkrc.com.au

If competitors have any queries or are unable to attend round 1 or round 2 of Top Guns then please email racesecretary@ogkrc.com.au.

If you have not entered either dates and would like to enter, the club will be taking entries up until Thursday 20th January.

Junior Tops Guns are two of the country's premier "not to be missed" events. These race events which are run during the school holidays, are a great opportunity for karters around Australia to come and enjoy racing under lights prior to the commencement of the school year.

A Brand New Arrow Chassis will be given away to one series competitor. Big thanks to DPE and DP Karts for sponsoring this prize.
