Junior Top Guns Finally Underway

It was a week later than scheduled, but Oakleigh’s Junior Top Guns 2011 finally got underway (in perfect weather conditions!) with the first of two rounds last night.

A few drivers had pulled out due to the rescheduling, but with the change from two events one week apart, the club actually gained more (mostly interstaters) than what they lost. Maybe a two-nights-in-a-row show is the way for the future?

Amazingly, with a race car test up for grabs, only 6 karters faced the starter in Junior Clubman. Thomas Randle qualified pole ahead of Anton DePasquale, but Anton got up to win the Pre-Final. In the Final, Randle shadowed De Pasquale the entire 12 laps but was unable to get by.

Justin Francis and Blaine Densley (both Intrepid) locked out the front row of Junior MAX in qualifying before Matthew McLellan took out the Pre-Final. McLellan lead the opening laps of the final before Syndey’s Cameron Hill got through and opened a 1 second gap.

Round 2 is tonight. Qualifying commences at 5pm. The club will accept entries for tonight’s racing (except for Rookies which is full) but interested competitors need to contact the race secretary – www.ogkrc.com.au
