AKA Launches Dealer Trade Licence

Kart shops will soon be able to take potential new karters to an AKA track for a test run thanks to a Dealer 'Trade Licence' the AKA has just announced.

The AKA Dealer Trade Licence (DTL) will assist the karting industry to offer non-AKA members the opportunity to experience karting - and hopefully gain a new customer and thus a new participant for the sport.

The DTL will allow registered members of the industry to take potential karters to their local club, which the dealer must be a member of, for a trial run behind the wheel of an entry-level kart in controlled conditions.

“The industry play a key role in terms of newcomers to our sport, so we’re delighted to be able to put a provide a policy at an economical price for them to offer the potential members an opportunity to get behind the wheel in a safe and controlled environment,” said National President Simon Whiting.

Drew Price, Managing Director of Drew Price Engineering, believes the DTL provides a great opportunity for dealers to assist in the growth of karting.

“For a number of years now our dealers have identified there was a gap between potential members wanting to try a kart before they commit to buying a licence, kart, club membership, safety gear and so on,” said Price.

“The initiative by the AKA to provide a policy where the industry can help bridge this gap is a tremendous step forward and I would encourage all dealers out there to take up this opportunity.”

The DTL is available to dealers who comply with a set of guidelines (viewable by Clicking Here, includes the application form). They must be a registered business name associated with karting, or current operational businesses within the karting industry, hold a current Public & Products liability insurance policy and maintain a log book for the DTL. An unlicenced new driver can have a maximum of 50 laps per day and must display an 'L' learner's plate.

The cost of the DTL is $250 including GST per annum. This will be invoiced initially on acceptance of the application by the AKA and then annually in approximately January of each year.
