Lithgow Alive At TEKA Enduro

press release

Anticipation and excitement levels were high at the 5-hour race at Lithgow on February 19!

The calendar for 2011 was an exciting one and the interest in the B & S Animal class was huge. There were some teams elevated to A grade after good results in 2010, and others in B coming into their own and planning to give the championship a real shove. Twenty seven teams rocked up to begin their 2011 Endurance campaign full of adrenalin.

Although wet weather was a possibility coming into the weekend, it would not only stay dry, but very humid throughout!

Qualifying was ridiculously close right to the last lap, Grumpy Mongrels #76 earning pole position over Buildline #9 by 9/100ths of a second in their first run in the Animals! Well done boys!

In A grade Awesome Threesome #10 no surprise grabbed top spot followed by Focus #5 and JKR #22 separate by just over half a second.

Hellrazor #66 fastest in B grade followed by Team Frog #11 and RAD Racing #58.

The Australian flag got us under way, and while there were no major incidents elbows were definitely out. It was obvious after the first hour nose to tail that it would remain that way between a number of teams for the whole 5 hours.

After a ballistic start and dominant mid section of the race Kinetic lost ground in the latter part of the race only just trailing the leaders into the run home. With 25mins to go Dynamite #27 had a terminal engine drama while leading the race leaving it to Blatt #49 to hold off Buildline #9 and Kinetic #51. All karts were extremely quick throughout the race, Blatt taking the win by 3.8seconds!

Dodgy Boyz #26 also a great turn of speed a credible 4th and Baby Bonus #17 (I’m sure it’s all spent) 5th with Mile’s having a faultless run job in his first run in a B & S.

In A grade, Pipey’s (Focus #5) never say die attitude to racing wasn’t quite enough to beat the professional outfit of Awesome Threesome #10 (there’s something so wrong about that name). And a great result for Benders #22 in their A grade debut coming in 3rd.

In B grade a big congratulations to Frog Racing #11 taking out their first win followed by Team Gonzo #247 (sorry Gozo) and Bullit Racing #50. It’s no surprise these three karts filled the podium, by the look of their karts and lap speed they’ve all done a lot of work in the off season, well done boys!

Gavin at Quick Pixels Photography has done an amazing job capturing all the action on the weekend. If anyone is interested in a CD of all the shots of their kart and team the cost is only approx $35. Photos can be viewed at www.myspace.com/quick_pix

Next round we head to one of the favourites, Newcastle! Although we’re expecting a big field it’s a track that can definitely handle it so if you would like to come and join us feel free!
