Local HDR Drivers Quick in Stars of Karting Round 1 Practice

press release

Harrington Doyle Racing’s 12yo Junior National competitor, Callum Walker today topped the timesheets in official practice for the Yamaha Challenge, as part of the 2011 Australian CIK Stars of Karting Series Round 1 at Ipswich.

callum walkerThe Cornubia school student (right) has been training hard, putting in long driver development days in recent months in preparation for this weekend and the rounds to come.  Walker last year made a single round debut in the Series at Ipswich, but has signed up for a full tilt at the 5 Round Yamaha Challenge Title Series (Ipswich Qld, Bolivar SA, Port Melbourne Vic, Eastern Creek NSW and Newcastle NSW).

“Today has been a good day.  It’s great to have been inside the Top 5 in each session.  Hopefully we can keep it pointed in that direction all weekend,” said Walker.

In other Team results for Harrington Doyle Racing, Clubman driver Terry Cobb was 2nd fastest in official Practice, whilst fellow Team mate James Greenwood unfortunately struggled with bad luck on track, with a damaging incident ripping a tyre and crushing panels & bars. Luckily his Monaco chassis remains undamaged. "Just something we didn't need in practice", said Greenwood.

“We’re pretty happy with how our Team is performing so far this weekend,” said Team Manager, Craig Doyle.  “Callum is certainly benefiting from our great new technical alliance with Pacific Kartsport.  Dale and Troy have been very attentive, as has Callum’s Melbourne based engine building duo of Grant & Jace Lindstrom from Pro Karting.  James’ incident was unfortunate and has disrupted our rhythm a bit, but he’ll be back on top of it in the morning and I’m sure he’ll be right back on Terry’s heels.  The two have been doing remarkably quick and consistent times in development days recently.”

HDR’s new Rookie recruit, Harrison Oddie joined the Team late last night, to help crew and do Team Partner promotions with the Harrington Doyle Promotional Hostesses, Sabrina and Lauren throughout this weekend.
Qualifying will be held from 9am tomorrow followed by three heat races. The finals will begin on Sunday morning at 9am.

The Ipswich Kart Club is located on Champions Way at Willowbank, just outside of Ipswich.
