Double Duty For Delamont

Jackson Delamont is going to have a mighty busy three days or motorsport in Dubbo later this month when he competes in the Rotax Pro Tour and NSW Sprintcar Title on the same weekend.

“I’ll be racing my kart in the heat rounds on Friday and Saturday (March 18 & 19), then will go out to Morris Park Saturday afternoon” the 16-year old explained.

“My goal is to get straight into the A-main, then do my best without any mishaps in the feature Title event. Then I’ll go back out to Lincoln for the finals of the Pro Tour on Sunday.”

Delamont first got the urge to get behind the wheel at the tender age of 5 when he would sit in a go-kart that his father had in the family shed, to see if his feet would reach the peddles. At 6, he tried motorbikes for a year, but decided go-karts were more to his liking. He has been Karting ever since and entered the inaugural Rotax Pro Tour in its first year in 2009, taking second at the Newcastle round in DD2 175kg class.

He debuted his #48 Mad Harry’s Steel sponsored 410 Sprintcar during the opening round of the NSW Country Sprintcar Series at Morris Park Speedway, Dubbo, in November 2010.

When asked what he thought about learning to drive through motor sports, Delamont commented “Karting and Speedway are great ways for kids to learn how to drive at a young age. They teach you how to react properly in tough situations and correct your driving, when you don’t have much time to think.”

“You gain experience behind the wheel and it’s always controlled with the strictest of safety rules which is a great thing, I think.”
